In the late August garden

Hello from the farm!

All the planning over the winter, all the planting in the spring - all leads to these next few intense, busy, and beautiful weeks in the garden! The cutting garden is in full throttle mode here and I almost can’t keep up with the blooms.

Dahlia cutting garden in full bloom

There are over 1300 dahlia plants in the ground this year, with just over 50 different varieties. I’ve found some new favorite varieties I cannot wait to share with you! Every time I walk the dahlia field I am in awe of the blooms and the COLORS!

Unfortunately, even with popular demand, we are not holding tours of the cutting gardens this season. However, I have posted a few videos (reels) on Instagram if you’d enjoy a virtual farm tour!

The back dahlia field in almost full bloom.

There are a few dahlia varieties that are finally starting to bloom (I’m looking at you Cafe au Lait!). The dahlias in the back dahlia field are much shorter than last year - due to the very dry, hot, and windy summer we’ve had. Amazingly there are many blooms, even with the shorter plant height. I’m interested in how the hot and dry summer weather affected tuber production - I suppose I’ll find out in about 6 weeks!

Thanks for reading my very first post! I have much to share and plan on adding much more content and knowledge here. Leave a comment if you like!
